Business game · inventory planning

Inventory planning is not only about what you sell. It's also about what's on the balance sheet.

OPTIQUEST puts your team in charge of twelve months of stock decisions. Half a day, teams of three, one shared scoreboard. From 15 to 120 people, a fixed price per session.

Everyone sees the stockouts. Nobody sees the capital.

Too little stock costs revenue. The whole company hears about it within a day.

Too much stock costs money that nobody sees.
It sits in a warehouse, on the balance sheet, doing nothing — and no one gets a phone call about it.

Your team makes that trade-off every week. Usually without saying it out loud, because sales, planning and finance are each looking at a different number, and all three are right. That is the conversation we want to have around the table while playing this game.

How it works

Twelve months of inventory decisions, in teams of 3 players.

Three roles, three views

Every team has a salesperson, a planner and a finance person. They need to work together for the best result.

One decision a month

Each round the team decides how much to order. Balancing inventory cost with service level.

No safe answer

Order too much and holding cost eats the margin. Order too little and the sale is gone for good.

One shared scoreboard

During the game, the teams wil see where they stand compared to competition. Aiming for the top, or trying to avoid the bottom of the ranking. Competition boosts motivation.

Try it out and you'll get it. The first 3 months are playable right here.

One number decides who wins. 3 explain it.

Overall profit decides who wins, but Service level, days of inventory and working capital are all measured and shared with every team afterwards. They explain the result.

What everyone takes back home.

Every team leaves with its own scorecard and a permanent place on the scoreboard.
What's more important, they now understand how good comunication and understanding each others goals makes a better profit for the company as a whole.
